Weight loss and Metabolism

Every now and again, I always come across someone who says they can’t lose weight because they have a slow metabolism.

Some people can have a medical condition that can effect metabolism, but otherwise, the majority of factors that effect metabolism, are controlled by ourselves

Here’s some tips on how to speed up your metabolism:

Increase activity. If you’ve hit a plateau on your weight loss, no need to decrease your calories. Try and increase your activity instead. Try ad in some weight training sessions or resistance work

Eat more protein. When you take in more protein, your body has got to work harder to break it down, therefore, burning more calories. In fact protein, burns more calories through the digestive process, more than any other food

Have a good breakfast. I still come across people who don’t have any breakfast, or will only have a small breakfast. Remember, potentially your body has been fasting for 6-10 hours. I tend to have bagels, scrambled egg whites and avocado ( carbs, protein and healthy fats ). When your body goes into starvation mode, your metabolism will slow right down

Drink plenty of water. Increasing your water intake can also contribute towards a faster metabolism

Try and get plenty of sleep. When you are sleeping, your body repairs itself. Aim for about 6-8 hours.
