Tips for choosing a Personal Trainer

It’s more than 20 years now, since I first started out as a PT ( long time ago ). – 1996
At first, I tried to cater for everyone. I had to, because it was a new thing and I needed the dosh.
When business crumbled ( about 2004 ), I had to get back to basics, while trying to get better in other areas.
I started focussing on one or two areas ( women and children ), and made my tools even better to help them, which is why I’m in the position I’m in today ( 150 a week coming to my sessions ) .
If you are thinking of coming to my sessions, or you are thinking of training with someone else, here’s a couple of tips that I hope will help you make the right decision:
1. Does the Trainer cater for me and my age group?

If you are about to work with a trainer, and they are working with a different age group than yourself, then this isn’t going to work. The training programs and and training intensity, maybe a lot different to what you need or require. Plus, communication tends to be a bit different between age groups. The main rule when starting out as a PT is ‘who is your market’
2. Check out Testimonials/ References/ Experience

I’ve always collected testimonials and references over the years from clients. They help the client feel more comfortable when they start working with me. So, check this out. Is the trainer working with your current age group? Does he have any references from people who are of similar age and ability? If you are going to take on a trainer just for the sake of it, it may cost you more money in the long run
3. Is the Trainer insured?

Another important one. There are hundreds of PT’s about now. Check out that they are insured, as accidents can happen. Also, make sure you fill out a disclaimer before you start the exercise program, saying you are ok to participate in it.
I went back to paul’s classes in April this year after having had my baby and had dropped a dress size within 5 weeks. The classes are highly addictive and extremely motivating! It’s the most amazing all – round workout, and without doubt is the most enjoyable form of exercise I’ve ever done. Paul is an excellent trainer and ensures his classes are always varied and fun but most importantly they are designed to work you to your absolute max and by the time you’ve done a session, you’re pouring with sweat and totally buzzing and you find yourself wanting to do it all over again!
